Falsehood of Comfort

While Jesus walked among his disciples, He did not teach that life would be easy if they came to follow Him. Instead, He told them, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." (Mark 8:34). Unfortunately, we have made Jesus and His teachings more of a "cultural Jesus" where we can just "cancel" Him if it gets too challenging or feels He is asking too much of us. Jesus’ counter-cultural teaching challenges us to re-commit our devotion to Him no matter what the cost.
