There is a familiar saying that “seeing is believing”.  We define belief by the intensity with which we accept or trust something, usually by what we set our eyes on.  But the Bible says that we should “trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our path.”  So how do we reconcile our need to believe and understand with this belief that God invites us into? In whom or what do we believe?  Jesus reveals and demonstrates some pretty unbelievable things.  His words and actions shake our own perception of the things we accepted or trusted.  Jesus explained God’s truth in sermons and parables, and He verified His identity through miracles.  When people around Jesus began to question their understanding based on what they were witnessing it revealed the tension between what they held onto and believed in.
